Wayne County sees major surge in COVID-19 cases, 52 hospitalized as emergency declared

Since November 1 there have been 27 COVID related deaths in Wayne County.

Over the weekend, there were five individuals who died from the virus.

Public health officials say the increase represents a 40% jump in fatalities associated with COVID and now represents 28% of all deaths since the start of the pandemic.

There are 768 active COVID cases in Wayne County, and 52 people hospitalized there with the virus.

“Consider the COVID-19 vaccinations if you have not already done so. They are extremely effective against COVID-19, and prevent serious symptoms. But more so, they significantly reduce hospitalizations and death. These vaccines are extremely safe,” officials said. “We are consistently seeing cases where symptoms are very much more severe among unvaccinated individuals. Most hospitalizations are unvaccinated patients as well.”
