Local debt collection company that used illegal tactics forced to shut down by state

An illegal debt collection company in Western New York has been shut down.

Attorney General Letitia James shut down Buffalo-based debt collector Andrew Fanelli, as well as his companies, to permanently ban them from dealing with any additional debt collection.

Fanelli’s companies include Northwood Asset Management Group LLC, Pinnacle Asset Recovery Group LLC, and Koalaty Pay LLC.

Fanellis is also required to dissolve the companies within six months and pay $1.2 million in restitution.

The attorney general says call recordings show the company used illegal tactics to collect debt.
