Dino Babers announces staff changes: 3 assistants won’t return, 2 officially retained for 2022

Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers made back-to-back coaching staff announcements early Sunday evening, the day after his team’s 2021 season concluded with a 31-14 loss to No. 20 Pittsburgh. Babers first confirmed reports that three members of his staff would not be retained for 2022: offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Sterlin Gilbert, tight ends/inside receivers coach Reno Ferri and defensive line coach Vinson Reynolds.

“I want to thank Coach Gilbert, Coach Ferri and Coach Reynolds for everything they’ve done for Syracuse University and this program,” Babers wrote. “We wish them nothing but the best.”

Then the 60-year-old announced two other assistants would stay with the program for another year: defensive coordinator Tony White and offensive line coach Mike Schmidt.
