A spokesperson for President Joe Biden says he plans to run for re-election in 2024.
“That’s his intention,” Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Monday. Up to that point there had been a lot of speculation about whether he would seek another term.
Biden recently celebrated his 79th birthday- and would be 82 when starting his second term if elected.
A Washington Post report over the weekend indicated that Biden and his allies were in the process of reassuring different parts of the Democratic Party that he’d seek another term.
Biden’s popularity has been cratering in recent weeks, which has only added fuel to the fire of debate about whether he should run for another term. Not only are Republicans critical of him, but Democrats have been largely disappointed with his policies to date. Especially the growing progressive portion of the party.
