Yates County had the lowest unemployment rate in the state in October, according to figures released by the state Labor Department.
The jobless rate came in at 3.1%, just ahead of Ontario and Tompkins Counties, tied for fourth at 3.5% Wayne County was tied for seventh among the state’s 62 counties at 3.6% Seneca County wasn’t far behind at 3.9%, tied for 19th. Cayuga County came in at 4.1%, tied for 32nd place.
The worst county in the state for joblessness in October was Bronx County at 11.7%.
Among the state’s major cities, the Ithaca metro area led the way at 3.5% New York City was the worst, at 8.4%. Regionally, the Finger Lakes came in at 4.1%, behind only the Capital Region and Long Island.
The statewide jobless rate in October was 6.9%, down from 7.1% in September.
