Waterloo man admits to killing his wife, pleads guilty in Seneca County Court

A Waterloo man has admitted to killing his wife.

John Gray III, 39, of Waterloo pleaded guilty to murder charges for killing his wife Ashia Chilson-Gray at her East River Street home in Waterloo on November 20, 2020.

She was a middle school teacher in the Geneva city school district.

Gray faces 20 years in prison when sentencing takes place next month.

According to District Attorney Mark Sinkiewicz, the guilty plea came as a surprise. “This was a little bit of a surprise,” he told the Finger Lakes Times. “We thought this case was going to trial.”
