As the pandemic goes on, there is one group of people who will be getting an additional stimulus check in 2022 after not getting one on 2021.
If you welcomed a new baby, you may be owed another check.
Under the American Rescue Plan, individuals were given $1,400 payments for each child they had. People who were pregnant when the plan was passed were unable to claim an additional check.
There is no limit, so if parents had twins or more than one child in 2021, they are entitled to more payments.
In the year 2020 there were 3.6 million children born, and the number will likely be similar for 2021.
The following eligibility requirements are necessary:
- File 2021 taxes by April 15, 2022, unless it’s for some reason extended.
- Married couples that make up to $150,000 qualify
- Individuals that make up to $75,000 qualify
Checks will be given once 2021 tax returns are completed and processed.
This is not the same thing as the child tax credits, which are advanced payments to eligible families against their credits next year.
