Whenever the local high school team wins a sectional title, its something that the whole town can celebrate and get behind. This soccer season, Skaneateles’ celebration will be twice as nice as both boys’ and girls’ teams won the Class B tournament in Section III.
The girls got the party started last Friday night against Clinton. It was a tight contest between the squads, and the first half was a scoreless draw. Clinton jumped to the lead scoring quickly in the second half. That’s when the Lakers went in to attack mode, as Kathryn Morrissey headed a long pass from Maeve McNeil in to the back of the net.
An incredible header by Morrissey off a long pass by McNeil ties the game at 1. What a beautiful goal!

As time ticked down, the rain did as well and the game would head to extra time. The first 10 minutes of overtime came and went with no scoring, and the second seemed to be destined for the same fate until Morrissey scored her second goal of the night with three minutes left. The final three minutes ticked away and the Lakers secured the Class B girls crown for Section III.

On Monday night, it was the boys turn to see if they could bring home the Class B title. The match against Cazenovia had a similar start as the girls’ game, but Skaneateles’ Dan Ramsgard had other plans. At the 15’ mark of the first half he scored the opening goal of the game. In quick succession, teammate Owen Cheney scored the second goal at the 17’ mark.
2 minutes later Owen Cheney makes it 2-0.

Heading in to the halftime break, the Lakers were up 2-0, and it would be all they would need as Skaneateles shutdown Cazenovia to win the Class B titles for boys in Section III. Skaneateles in the process goes back-to-back in boys’ sectional titles, winning in Class B in 2019, the last time Section III held the tournament.
