MARAUDERS WIN: Williamson brings home boys Class C1 soccer title

The damp and cool weather settled in for the Boys C1 Section V championship game this afternoon, and the Williamson Marauders were hopeful to keep the heat up in their quest for another sectional crown.  After failing to reach the finals in 2020, and coming up just short in 2019, the Marauders came in to the day with one goal in mind.

While the first 10 minutes of the contest remained quiet on the scoreboard, Williamson’s John Niles broke open scoring bubble at the 13’ mark.  15 minutes later in the first half, Rhett Storms connected on a pass Troy Ingram and scored the second Marauder goal at the 28’ mark.

The scoring then went quiet for nearly 40 minutes of game time as Geneseo tried to mount a comeback.  John Niles scored his second goal of the contest at the 22’ mark of the second half, a potential insurance goal.  Tyrone Walker assisted on both of Niles’ goals.

Geneseo was able to score at the 28’ mark from Ethan Bennett, however the Williamson lead would be too much to come back from.  Time expired, and Williamson won the Class C1 title 3-1.

The title is Williamson’s first since 2013, which wrapped up a three-peat of titles starting in 2011.  Williamson will now move on to face the winner of Kendall and Keshequa in the Class C state qualifier round on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.
