Officials have expressed worry as so many variants pop up that it will only be a matter of time before a new variant emerges that’s entirely resistant to vaccines.
At the moment, the newest variant spreading throughout the U.K. is AY.4.2, which comes from Delta.
It’s beginning to spread to the United States as well.
The CDC is monitoring for clusters but not worried just yet.
AY.4.2 is possibly 10% more transmissible than the Delta Variant.
It’s also been discovered that an older variant, A.30, can evade both Pfizer and AstraZeneca. It has not been spotted for months though.
