Ithaca man airlifted after serious head-on crash in Seneca County

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports they responded to a serious crash in Varick around 6:52 a.m. on October 29.

A vehicle operated by Christopher Bilyk, 36, of Ithaca was headed south on Route 96 and crossed the center line. His vehicle then struck the front of a northbound pickup truck, which was operated by 56-year-old Wayne Shafer.


As result of the collision Bilyk suffered serious leg and chest injuries. He was trapped for a short time inside the vehicle, then airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Shafer and his passenger suffered minor injuries and were sent to Geneva General Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
