With the rain taking center stage at Finger Lakes Community College Friday night, the Pal-Mac Red Raiders looked to take victory from the Red Raiders of Hornell. In a match that felt as if destiny determined the match-up, it would be Pal-Mac outlasting the rain and Hornell, 2-0, to secure the Section V Class B1 title. It was their third championship in the past 6 seasons, with last year’s squad being denied by Covid after shutting the team down prior to the postseason.

The first half lived up to destiny feel, with both Red Raider squads locked in a 0-0 battle at halftime. With rain intensifying, the action on the pitch turned up. Molly Seither sent a goal to the back of the net early in the second half, which would set the tone for the rest of the match. Maya Ikewood put in an insurance goal at the 26’ mark, during which the rain hit a fever pitch. It would be all that Pal-Mac would need however, as they were able to control much of the ball movement in the final 14 minutes of play. The Red Raiders of Pal-Mac cleared the ball away in the final seconds, allowing them to secure the crown in Class B1.
This title marks the third for perennial Finger Lakes East girls soccer power Pal-Mac in six years, dating back to their wins in 2016 and 2018.
Pal-Mac now moves on to face Haverling in the Class B state qualifier round on Tuesday night, at a site and time to be determined.
