Senator Pam Helming was recognized by members of Marine Corps League Memorial Day Detachment 468 for her efforts to help make Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery the first New York State Veterans Cemetery.
Memorial Day Detachment 468 partners with Senator Helming each year on the Toys for Tots program. Its members are involved in many other local service initiatives, including support for Canandaigua VA veterans and Blue Star Mothers, and the Challenge 22 event raising awareness of veteran suicide.
Senator Helming said, “It was my honor to advocate for Sampson’s designation as New York’s first State Veterans Cemetery alongside our local veterans and their families, and so many other supporters. Our veterans and military families deserve all the credit, and our highest respect and gratitude. Thank you to Dave, Jim, Joyce and Jim for presenting me with this special award and to all the members of Memorial Day Detachment 468 for their continued service in our communities.”
