Part of Ithaca shut down Wednesday due to incident involving gun

Police in Ithaca say a portion of Chestnut Street in the area of Cayuga Gardens Apartments was closed Wednesday morning as officers dealt with a situation involving a gun.

It was described as a dispute, where one person was threatened with and eventually struck across the head with a handgun.

Police said it happened around 9:30 a.m. Officers checked the area but were unable to find the person described as the suspect.

The victim didn’t require medical attention.

During the incident notifications were sent out to the public and nearby Lehman Alternative Community School to avoid the area.
