Ontario County schools will now be able to give rapid PCR tests to symptomatic students

On-site testing will be available soon at all Ontario County school districts.

The effort is to help keep kids in school by identifying whether a student is showing symptoms from COVID-19.

Parental permission is required before students can be tested.

Many schools are struggling to keep kids in the classroom with so many in quarantine after they show symptoms at school.

Mary Beer told 13 WHAM News that the technology being provided to schools is for rapid PCR testing, which can normally take up to two days to receive results.

This way, students showing symptoms can be tested and if they are negative, remain in school instead of being sent home as a precaution.

PCR testing is one of the most reliable forms of testing.
