If Newsom loses the recall election, the Democratic control in the Senate could be in danger

As the recall election moves forward in California, Democrats are nervous.

Right now, Governor Gavin Newsom is ahead, but if that changes and a Republican replaces him, the U.S. Senate remaining Democrat may be unlikely.

If a Republican becomes governor, they also have the power to appoint a new senator if one were to leave office.

Right now the oldest member on the Senate is Senator Dianne Feinstein at age 88, and if she fell ill or left, the governor in California could replace her.

At the moment, the Senate is 50/50 when it comes to Republicans and Democrats.
