Colleges and Universities temporarily set aside the requirement for SAT and ACT scores for applicants

Due to the pandemic, many colleges and universities have decided not to use the SAT or ACT tests for a couple of years when accepting students.

Kitty McCarthy with SUNY ESF said they chose to become test-optional because it could have been a barrier for students applying to college during COVID-19.

Oswego, Cortland, Morrisville, and Colgate University have all switched to test-optional until Spring of 2023.

Cornell and Syracuse Universities will be test-optional until Fall of 2022.

There are various colleges across the state that have always been test-optional, or just didn’t accept test scores at all.

This could open opportunities for students to apply to schools without test scores they otherwise would not have normally qualified for.
