The reason for renters choosing not to renew a lease is more likely something within their landlord’s control, and less likely for personal reasons.
372,000 renters participated in a survey for the National Multifamily Housing Council and one-third admitted to not renewing a lease because of the landlord.
Many cited package theft and slow response to maintenance needs as just two reasons for why they didn’t like their landlord.
Lower rent was also a reason renters chose to leave.
Over 25% wanted to find better apartment features and one-fifth wanted to be in a better community.
Most factors reported as reasons the tenants left were under the landlord’s control.
