President Joe Biden approves federal funding for Hurricane Ida damage in New York

The use of federal funding has been approved by President Joe Biden to help New Yorkers recover from flooding due to Hurricane Ida.

Dozens died during the flooding.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed a major disaster declaration following the assessment of damage, which totaled at least $50 million.

In order to qualify for federal funding the damage needs to amount to at least $30 million.

1,200 homes were damaged and some were entirely destroyed.

Biden is expected to survey the damage in New York and New Jersey caused by the flooding Tuesday.
