The Mets have promoted INF/OF prospect Mark Vientos to Triple-A Syracuse, per Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News.
Vientos, 21, has crushed Double-A pitching this season, slashing .281/.346/.580 with 22 homers and 16 doubles in 306 plate appearances over 72 games.
He has been one of the biggest bright spots in the Mets’ minor league system this season, along with Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, and Ronny Mauricio.
With Vientos making it to Triple-A for the final stretch of the season (which ends on Oct. 3), he’ll have a chance to show what he can do at the highest level of the minors before very likely opening the 2022 season back in Triple-A.
Vientos, who has played third base most of the time during his minor league career, has played some first base this season while also getting a bit of time in left field during what has been his first taste of the outfield as a professional.
It’s possible that Vientos, who is ranked as the Mets’ No. 5 prospect per SNY contributor Joe DeMayo, makes his Mets debut at some point in 2022.
