Congressional Democrats for New York City sent Gov. Kathy Hochul a letter Saturday urging her to do what she could to extend the state’s eviction moratorium.
New York received about $2 trillion to send out to landlords and renters to alleviate the issue of back rent and avoid evictions, but as of Aug. 23, only $203 million has been sent.
The letter to Hochul explains that an extension would give them time to get the funding through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program and help them avoid homelessness.
One of Hochul’s focuses since taking office has been to increase the speed at which aid is being disbursed.
Right now, Hochul plans to meet with state legislative leaders to discuss the expiring moratorium and try to come up with a solution.
