Now that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for adults, some have asked when 12-15 year olds will get the same full approval from the FDA.
Local pediatricians who spoke about that said it should come within a few weeks. For those under 12, it is expected to take longer.
The delay is due to a lack of data. As data on the vaccine comes in the FDA will be able to make grant full approval.
All of the studies that have come through on children and the COVID vaccine also revealed an important piece of information: Kids aged 5-12 can get one-third the dose of COVID vaccine than adults and still get the same immune response.
That’s important because of vaccine supply across the world.
