Governor Kathy Hochul selected New York State Senator Brian Benjamin to serve as her lieutenant.
The senator from Harlem will fill the most-prominent post in her administration.
The New York Times reported Hochul’s decision, which was said to be an effort to diversify her ticket as she seeks a full-term next fall.
Benjamin is the senior assistant majority leader in New York State Senate, where he’s advocated for criminal justice reforms. He ran unsuccessfully for city comptroller earlier this year. His district includes Upper Manhattan.
