All Americans will need a booster shot, data shows those vaccinated in January have waning protection against COVID

Different data is coming together to show the need for a booster shot with COVID vaccines.

The booster is now being recommended to all Americans, eight months after their last dose to help hinder the spread of the Delta variant.

Studies support that people vaccinated in January against the virus have significantly lowered protection.

The Delta variant being the dominating strain, breakthrough cases among the vaccinated, and waning protection in vaccinated individuals are all reasons the booster shot is important.

Booster shot trials are consistent with data from the trials of second doses of vaccines, and the boosters are currently only for Moderna and Pfizer, but studies are underway to see if mixing names works for those with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
