Portion of Elmira Rd. in Ithaca reopens after high pressure gas line hit by construction crew

A portion of Elmira Road was closed on Monday in Ithaca after a gas leak prompted emergency response from first responders and NYSEG crews.

The Ithaca Fire Department said that just before 1:00 p.m. Monday, a construction crew working at the intersection of Elmira Road and Commercial Ave, struck a natural gas line, releasing high-pressure gas.

First responders controlled traffic around the scene, while New York State Electric and Gas worked to make repairs.

No injuries were reported and the roadway was reopened later in the afternoon.
