School districts struggle to make plans for fall, New York State Department of Health hasn’t given guidance

While CDC guidance for schools has changed, the New York State Department of Health has offered no direction as the start of the school year approaches.

In Liverpool, some students have been away from school buildings for as long as 18 months.

Dr. Mark Potter, Liverpool’s Superintendent, says without state guidance no plans have been set in stone. The school district is still figuring out masks, social distancing, and the number of kids that can be on a school bus.

Potter says there are unanswered questions that need to be addressed before any plans are made, including whether masks are an obligation or if there is flexibility.
