Lt. James Slayton sworn in as Chief of Police for the City of Auburn

Auburn Mayor Michael Quill swore Lt. James Slayton in as the new Chief of Police last week.

He begins as Chief Shawn Butler ends 25 years of service for the city of Auburn.


Slayton is a 23-year veteran and Auburn native that worked as the department’s planning and training officer.

When Butler became chief in 2016, Slayton was promoted to Lieutenant.
