Region 9 Forest Rangers hosted training in Alleghany County for volunteer rescuers

A wildland search training was hosted by Region 9 Forest Rangers in June at Bully Hill State Forest in the town of Almond for volunteer responders.

Trainees were assigned to crews and practiced different techniques in response to a situation where a child would be missing from a family’s campsite.

Many participants representing local organizations were present.

The DEC Forest Rangers respond to calls of search and rescue incidents, often with the help of other state agencies and rescue groups.

In 2020 the DEC Forest Rangers responded to 492 search and rescue missions.
