Some local farmers say the pandemic helped to put them on the map when the pandemic caused residents to be out of work and unable to afford food.
Albanese Longhorns owners Ellen and Mike Albanese of Lafayette said that until the pandemic happened, neighbors as close as a mile away admitted they never knew the farm was there.
Ryan McMahon, Onondaga County Executive, said the pandemic caused many issues, one being a concern for food supply chains. He said since the area has such a strong AG economy, that problem was helped with local farms.
Ellen Albanese stated that many people, even after the pandemic, are likely to continue to purchase food grown and produced locally now that awareness of who supplies the food has spread.
