With a wave of retirements hitting the Hornell Fire Department, multiple new hires have been appointed in recent months.
The newest addition to the department is Matthew Graham, who was appointed on Monday by the City of Hornell Board of Public Safety as a full-time firefighter.
Before being appointed, Graham was a volunteer for the South Hornell Fire Department as well as working as a call man for the Hornell Fire Department.
Graham currently resides in South Hornell and was appointed a call man this past April.
Recent retirements left the fire department short two firefighter and they are currently in the process of reviewing civil service candidates.
Two other new hires for the department include Mike Robbins and Chad Hancock, both of which were North Hornell volunteer firefighters.
The Hornell Fire Department responded to 52 calls in May, three for reports of fires and four for nuisance fires. The ambulance responded to 289 calls in May which included eight motor vehicle accidents and six overdoses.
