A man fell 75 feet inside the gorge trail at Buttermilk Falls State Park on Tuesday in Ithaca.
Hikers called 911 before 8 a.m. to let Tompkins County dispatch know there was a hiker off the trail in need of help.
The man was located on a ledge over a waterfall in the gorge and told rescuers he had an ankle injury and needed help getting out. The Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance worked to use a rope system and rescue basket to get the man out and attended to by paramedics.
The rescue took about three hours.
