Auburn could avoid tax hike thanks to COVID relief funds

The tax hike in the preliminary budget put together by officials in the city of Auburn could be eliminated.

City Comptroller Rachel Jacobs presented a revised spending plan to City Council last week, showing the elimination of a $1.4 Million budget gap.

Federal stimulus funds earmarked for Auburn’s capital fund were the difference-maker.

City Clerk Chuck Mason tells Finger Lakes News Radio that the city is waiting for the federal funds to arrive along with guidance on how they can be used.

The final budget vote is expected to happen June 3.
