School budget with tax hike will go before voters in Auburn

There will be an increase in school taxes in the city of Auburn.

The board of education approved a 3.5% increase in spending, along with a 2.85% increase in the tax levy.

There are no layoffs in the proposal, which is a win, according to school officials and board members alike.

The budget will now go before the community for a vote on May 18.

The state is receiving $3.66 million more in state aid, but that wasn’t enough to offset what has otherwise been an expensive period in education.
