It’s been more than 35 years in law enforcement for Sheriff William Yessman of Schuyler County.
He recently announced that retirement would come at the end of the year. Yessman was first elected sheriff in 2005, and has remained in the post since.
“My family are the ones who have sacrificed for all those years,” he said, recounting the events he missed as result of being sheriff. Yessman recently spoke with Finger Lakes News Radio about his decision to retire. “It’s time to give back to them.”
As for whether he will remain in Schuyler County – the Sheriff said it will happen.
“I will be local – if I do move it won’t be out of the area, but it’s just to spend some time with family and get back to my hobbies,” Yessman added.
