Troopers: Fishermen rescued after falling through thin ice in Wayland

Two ice fishermen were rescued after falling through the ice on Loon Lake in Steuben County.

The lake is located in the town of Wayland. State police were called to the scene around 11:30 a.m. for the report of fishermen in the water.

A 20-year-old was fishing at an ice shanty with a 49-year-old when he fell through. It was his stepfather, according to troopers.

Troopers tied three ropes together, and utilized a ladder to rescue the fishermen, who were 100-150 feet out into the lake.

Due to the mild weather ice-related activities are not suitable, troopers said after. The 49-year-old was transported to Noyes Hospital for treatment.
