Sheriff: Speed likely a factor in fatal four-vehicle crash on SR 332 in Canandaigua

Sheriff Kevin Henderson reports that deputies, as well as Canandaigua Fire and Ambulance responded to State Route 332 and Airport Road for a four-vehicle crash.

Sheriff Henderson said a deputy witnessed the crash and immediately called for assistance.

Two of the vehicles were traveling south, and a tractor-trailer was traveling north on Route 332. The truck was attempting to make a left-turn onto Airport Road when the two sedans traveling south struck the rear passenger side of the trailer.

Sheriff Henderson said one of the sedans was dragged through the intersection and struck a fourth vehicle, which was stopped on Airport Road.

Due to the collision the sedan caught on fire and was quickly extinguished by the deputy who witnessed the fire.

All three passengers in that vehicle had to be extricated by the Canandaigua Fire Department.

Sheriff Henderson said the driver of that vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ontario County Coroner. The other two passengers were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.

No other injuries were reported in the other vehicles.

Sheriff Henderson said the investigation remained active, but that speed appeared to be a factor at this time.

East Bloomfield Ambulance, Honeoye-Richmond Ambulance, LifeNet, New York State Police, Ontario County Fire Coordinators Office, and the Canandaigua Highway Department all assisted at the scene.

Route 332 was reopened about four hours after the crash.
