At this point it’s not clear when high risk sports will take place in New York’s high schools again.
“We’re not in a position to put out guidance for the high risk sports to continue,” said Robert Mujica last week. He’s Governor Andrew Cuomo’s top budget aide.
Reporters had asked about the future of winter sports, which have been temporarily put on hold. There have been some indications that winter sports – like basketball or wrestling – might begin in January.
But no word yet from the Governor or his team.
Other high risk sports include competitive cheering and hockey. The common denominator is that they all take place indoors – where the virus can most-easily move.
If approved its also not clear how schools would execute them, since there would likely be restrictions on who could attend games.
