Thousands of people across the state have lost health insurance that was previously provided through their employer.
Now that it’s gone – New York State’s Open Enrollment is there to fill the gap.
Open Enrollment officially began on Sunday, which allows people to sign up for health insurance through the state’s portal.
There are advocates available to help guide the individuals through the process – and find out about what benefits are available to them.
Dr. Donna Christensen, who serves on the Board of Consumers for Quality Care tells Finger Lakes News Radio that around 40% of people are not as ‘health literate’ as they should be.
Those who are shopping for insurance have to keep an eye out for a variety of things.
Check out the plans by visiting www.nystateofhealth.ny.gov.
