On Thursday, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced that the next debate, set for October 15th would take place virtually.
The announcement, which apparently did not include consultation of both candidates, set off a swift response from President Donald Trump — who vowed not to participate.
“I’m not going to do a virtual debate” he said. Meanwhile, the Commission said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution to protect the health and safety of those at the debate.
Trump was diagnosed with the coronavirus a week ago and but in a Tuesday tweet said he looked forward to debating Biden on stage in Miami.
“They’re trying to protect Biden,” Trump said to Fox News on Thursday.
