When will New York require vehicle inspections again?

When Governor Andrew Cuomo decides that it will again be required to get an annual vehicle inspection – auto shops will see a flood of customers.

Hundreds of thousands have reportedly put off their vehicle inspections during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Department of Motor Vehicles says that there’s been a decrease of approximately 11% this year. New York auto shops had performed 739,000 fewer inspections since March as of earlier this month.

In March, Governor Cuomo issued an executive order temporarily suspending annual vehicle inspection requirements.

It hasn’t been restored, but it does expire on October 4th. He could extend it, but there hasn’t been any clear signal if that will happen.
