Finger Lakes Health will be offering “Walk-In Screening Mammograms” in Geneva and Penn Yan starting in September and Finger Lakes Health Rehabilitation Services will be offering a free monthly Community Mobility Screening Program on September 17.
In Geneva, Walk-In Screening Mammograms will be offered the second Monday of the month starting September 14 from 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and from 12:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. in Women’s Health Services 200 North Street, Suite 303, located in the Medical Office Building, adjacent to Geneva General Hospital.
In Penn Yan Walk-In Screening Mammograms will be offered the third Wednesday of the month starting September 16 from 9: 30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology Department at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, 418 North Main Street.
3D Mammography is provided at Geneva General Hospital and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. Digital breast tomosynthesis (tomo), also known as 3D mammography, is a revolutionary new screening and diagnostic breast-imaging tool to improve the early detection of breast cancer. During the 3D part of the exam, an x-ray arm sweeps over the breast, taking multiple images in seconds.
Patients do not need a referral nor will they incur a copay for a screening mammogram. For uninsured patients, the CSP of the Finger Lakes Region provides free screenings for colorectal, cervical and breast cancers for uninsured men and women. Finger Lakes Health Rehabilitation Services will be conducting a free monthly Community Mobility Screening Program on Thursday, September 17 in the rehabilitation department at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, 418 North Main Street, Penn Yan and at Garnsey Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at Geneva General Hospital,196 North Street, Geneva. This program is open to all individuals over the age of 65.
The screening will measure participant’s scores on tests that predict their risk for falls, recognize strength deficits and balance issues as compared to peers.
The goal of Finger Lakes Health Rehabilitation Services is to maintain the independence of community dwelling older adults. This free screening will provide a report card to for seniors on their mobility as compared to their peers. The tests are evidenced based and can provide information on their risk for falls, strength deficits and balance concerns.
The free screening will take about 30 minutes to complete and will be offered the third Thursday of the month in the rehabilitation department at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital and at Garnsey Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at Geneva General Hospital.
