The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch until 7 p.m. for counties in the Southern Tier.
The tornado watch includes Broome, Chenango, Columbia, Cortland, Delaware, Dutchess, Greene, Otsego, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, and Ulster counties.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center says conditions are ripe, with developing thunderstorms, for the risk of an isolated tornado.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is active for a large part of the Finger Lakes, and several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been issued along the New York State Thruway corridor.
