The Cayuga County Health Department says that HABs or Harmful Algal Blooms have been found on Owasco Lake.
They were reported on Thursday and are expected to continue due to warm weather. The health department closed Camp Y-Owasco beach due to the outbreak.
Water samples will be collected when the bloom dissipates. The public should avoid water that is discolored with a paint-like or filmy appearance.
Don’t boat, fish, swim or wade in areas with blooms. You shouldn’t eat fish caught in areas with blooms either.
