Don’t expect primary, special election results anytime soon; could take days, if not weeks to process

Even though Tuesday is Primary Day and Special Election Day across New York – don’t expect results anytime soon.

Officials have been preparing residents for days, if not weeks of waiting, as results are tabulated under unusual circumstances.

Katie Lacy is the Democratic Party Commissioner with the Cayuga County Board of Elections, and spoke with Finger Lakes News Radio this week.

“The biggest part of the delay is the week that we’re required to wait for ballots to come in,” she explained in an interview with FLNR.

Every registered voter received an absentee ballot application this year, at the direction of Governor Andrew Cuomo. There’s been discussion about mail-in-balloting for November’s election, but that remains under debate.

It’s unclear if there will be the means to make that a reality.
