Deputies: Auburn man ejected from vehicle, airlifted to Upstate Hospital

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation of a single-car personal injury crash that happened on Route 89 in the town of Butler.

Deputies were dispatched to the area of Route 89 and Reed Road for a car that had left the roadway, entered a field, and overturned several times – ejecting one of the occupants.

They say an Auburn man, identified as 21-year-old Tyler Legrett, was traveling north on Route 89 when his vehicle left the road.

A 22-year-old passenger, identified as Garrett Schafer, also of Auburn, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Due to the extent of his injuries, Schafer was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital. Meanwhile, Legrett, as well as a backseat passenger, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Deputies say citations are pending. They were assisted at the scene by the South Butler Fire Department and Wayne County EMS.
