Police in the Rochester-area say they will educate the public, but writing tickets for those offenders not wearing a mask in public is not going to happen.
“If people are not wearing it we’re gonna try to educate them on that and try to provide them with a free one, but we’re not gonna start arresting people or doing any of that,” said Chief VanBrederode, of the Gates Police Department told RochesterFirst.com.
The bottom line: There’s no law that currently exists to ticket or arrest people who aren’t wearing masks.
That’s why the focus will remain on educating the public about the importance of wearing one.
Meanwhile, businesses around the region have implemented individual rules to address the issue. While grocery stores like Wegmans, Tops, and Walmart have signs throughout instructing that masks are required – many customers can still be seen not wearing them.
