Governor Andrew Cuomo says he’s signing an executive order to call all public and private labs in the state to coordinate with Department of Health in Albany to streamline testing.
It’s part of his effort to move the state toward economic reopening.
The executive order will call on these labs to work together with the state, putting a priority on diagnostic testing.
Governor Cuomo compared the state’s next battle in the epidemic to the initial ‘surge and flex’ plan, which was developed for hospitals across New York.
It demanded that hospitals increase their capacity by at least 50%.
At the moment there are currently 301 private labs and hospitals capable of conducting testing.
Cuomo also called for federal assistance, as the state eyes a financial crisis that could leave it with a $15 billion budget shortfall.
