Tractor-trailer driver ticketed after crash shuts down Penn Yan street for 9 hours

The Penn Yan Police Department reports that officers were called to Liberty Street on Thursday around 6:15 p.m. for a reported crash involving a tractor-trailer.

Police say the accident happened around Soldiers and Sailors Hospital. Investigation determined that the driver lost control of the truck – striking one telephone pole, causing the trailer to lose its cargo.

No injuries were reported. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Rene Banke, 59, of Rochester. Banke was cited for failing to maintain lane.

Liberty Street was closed for several hours while first responders worked at the scene. About 9 hours later, the street was reopened, police added.
