Road patrol deputy in Wayne County tests positive for COVID-19

A deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19.

Sheriff Barry Virts said seven deputies have been furloughed with pay as result. They are also being monitored by Wayne County Public Health.

Macedon Police Chief John Colella says he has also furloughed officers. Three of those officers had contact with the deputy who tested positive for COVID-19.

Road patrol duties will remain the same in Wayne County. As with standard protocol, the identity of the deputy will not be released.
