Social distancing, or physical distancing, is a set of non-pharmaceutical interventions or measures taken to prevent the spread of a contagious disease by maintaining a physical distance between people and reducing the number of people who can gather in close proximity.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, or COVID-19 outbreak in New York people weren’t that familiar with the term.
Now though, the streets are empty, non-essential businesses are closed, and rural communities in the Finger Lakes are even more quiet than they ordinarily are this time of year.
A website is collecting cellphone data to rate the social distancing each county is practicing, and assigning grades to that work. Here’s how the Finger Lakes shapes up:
Ontario: A-
Tompkins: B
Yates: B
Schuyler: C
Seneca: C
Cayuga: D
Steuben: D
Wayne: D
